Dear STE Community,
Today marks the last of our daily updates. After much hard work, our K-Bridge through 12th grade teachers are ready to have students back in class, and church will resume in our church building on Sunday. We are greatly anticipating the return to normalcy after Harvey and the resulting cleanup on campus. There is still work to be done, for sure, but our faculty, staff, administrators, and volunteers have accomplished much in cleanup and remediation.
In addition to following standard guidelines for cleaning and sanitizing our affected property, we’ve had former Tulane professor in environmental science, expert in his field, and Saint Thomas’ church member Robert Reimers on campus to guide us in our efforts. Dr. Reimers specializes in biosolids treatment, disinfection, stabilization, and reuse. We will continue to monitor campus out of concern for the well-being of our church and school community.
As of this week our main number for the church and school (713.666.3111) is again active. There will be some changes to how we access the campus now that our remaining grades will be back in class. The gate along Endicott will now serve as the main entrance. A security guard will be present at the gate during the day to check in and direct visitors for both the church and the school. The front desk for the school has moved to inside the Upper School building. If you need to check-in or check-out a student during the day, you must do so at the front desk. For additional information on what to expect during the school day, please see our Hurricane Harvey FAQ.
There will also be changes to our normal dismissal procedures for Lower School. Our Lower School parents should have received an email this afternoon from Head of Lower School Elizabeth Bentrup with information on what to expect.
If you are a Shell employee or retiree, don’t forget to visit Shell’s HERO site to increase your donation to STE through the HERO Double Match Campaign and Disaster Relief Fund. We ask that everyone continue to spread the word about our campus recovery efforts by sharing the stesflood.org link.
Our volunteers have continued to make great progress in the demo and cleanup around campus. Thanks to these individuals we have completed work in the following areas:
• Scottish Arts
• Ingram Room and G-1
• Administrative Offices
• Murray Center Kitchen
• A/B Hallway
Save the date for another STE community workday this Saturday, September 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For lunch, we will serve pulled pork barbecue sandwiches, potato salad, fruit, and chips. We will also welcome volunteers tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Thank you all for your support and prayers as we have moved from our initial recovery phase following the flood to welcoming our community back to campus. May God bless you all.
