Hurricane Update, 9/6

Dear STE Community,

parent meetingOver the last two days, our Heads of School have worked hard on ironing out the details of our transition period between the return to school on September 13 and when our temporary buildings are ready for occupancy. Although we do not yet have a date for our move to the buildings, we do know that the plan will be as follows:

  • Have the temporary buildings constructed on the STE campus.
  • Once the temporary buildings are ready, transfer Middle School and Lower School classes to these buildings.
  • Move the Upper School from Houston Christian Assembly back to the Upper School building.

We think you will agree that this is the most logical course of action given our desire to give our Lower and Middle School students classrooms they can call their own and to preserve the space for our Upper School students. Once we are closer to this second transition period, we will have additional details on how the move will take place.

Thank you to the 70 volunteers who came out today to continue the demo and cleanup work. If you are available tomorrow, September 7, we could use your help. Work will start at 9:00 a.m. Please bring the following items if you have them:

  • Push brooms
  • Mops
  • Dust pans
  • Fans
  • Dust masks
  • Sledgehammers
  • Crowbars
  • Circular saws

Remember that you should dress for dirty construction work and that all students under 16 should be accompanied by a parent. For STE’s protection, we are asking all volunteers to sign a liability waiver.

Our yearbook advisor David Graves has offered to replace students’ flood damaged yearbooks free of charge dependent on the availability of extra copies. If your student needs a replacement yearbook, email graves.david@stes.org with the student’s name and years needed. Mr. Graves will check to see if extra copies are available and then coordinate a time and location for pickup.

We hope you will be able to join us for our prayer meeting Friday at 6:00 p.m. in room 103 of the Upper School building. We will pray for our church and school, our community, and each other. Childcare will be provided. You are also invited to join us Sunday for a 10:30 a.m. service outside the main church doors. Come as you are. A nursery will be available for children two years and younger. Starting September 17, all children through grade 6 are invited to join us for Sunday School  starting at 9:15 a.m. and Children’s Church/Catechesis at 10:30 a.m.

We are excited to announce that, as of today, we have achieved our matching gift goal. This brings our total raised to $624,999 in gifts and pledges. We would love to raise a total of $1 million by week’s end. Please help us keep up the momentum by sharing stesflood.org.

God bless you all.
